Four games on tap in the MWC tonight

November 22, 2011

I’ve struggled out of the gate so far with a record of 3-3-1. Some early season momentum gone by the wayside with wrong picks involving UNM. I will avoid them for the time being; they will be a hard team to figure while breaking in some new players.

South Dakota @ Wyoming – Wyoming continues their OOC death march with a home match-up against the Fightin’ Coyotes from Vermillion, SD. The Coyotes are coming off a big home win against Nebraska-Omaha. The Pokes are coming off a road loss to Green Bay who played without Aaron Rodgers. Last time WYO played in the Pimple on the Prairie there were 58 fouls whistled. Expect more of the same. That’s the formula to win for the Pokes. In Vegas, this game is the sound of one hand clapping; there isn’t even a spread available to bet.

Manhattan @ Colorado State (-14.5) – The Rams are still short-handed with Pierce Hornung still suffering from a concussion. They expended a lot of energy last night and might struggle to deliver 40 minutes against a Jasper team looking to score a famous upset. Hard to imagine CSU winning in a blowout, especially against a team that has reasonable depth. Take the Jaspers and the points if you dare to bet on your own team.

Cal Poly @ UNLV (-15.5) – The Rubbles are starting to thrive in first year coach Dave Rice’s uptempo system. They’ve been blowing out lesser teams at home. I don’t think they’ll get caught looking ahead to their next game against USC on Friday. Take the Rebels and lay the points.

Boise State (+9.5) @ Long Beach State – the premier MWC game this evening as high-scoring Boise visits a very good Long Beach State squad. Boise has played wea teams so far but have shown the ability to really score. LBSU owns a road win at Pitt and took San Diego State to OT in San Diego. The 49ers are good and Boise is a question mark. I wouldn’t touch this game but in the interest of making a pick, I’ll take Boise and the points.
