The hardest one is picking the Player of the Year. There are lots of worthy candidates. But when you realize that the Game of the Year was when New Mexico played for 1st place at Fort Collins, the selection becomes easy. Colton Iverson was brilliant with 26 points and 15 rebounds. But Kendall Williams was out of this world, delivering the single greatest performance in what was essentially a game for the regular season conference championship. 46 points on 10-13 shooting from beyond the arc.
Congrats Kendall.
I agree with everything except having Bennett over Kirk as first team. Looking at their stats in conference:
Kirk – 12.9 PPG, 8.8 RPG, 2.3 BSPG
Bennett – 12.1 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 1.1 BSPG
When they went head-to-head, Kirk owned him in the first game. 23 points 9 rebounds 1 block vs. 12 points 6 rebounds, 1 block.
The second game was pretty much a draw. 17 points 16 rebounds, 2 blocks for Kirk; 17 points 12 rebounds 3 blocks for Bennett
Kirk should be first team. Bennett should be second team.
I had Kirk as 2nd team and Bennett as 3rd team.
My eyes have deceived me this morning. I can tell it definitely is a Monday. My apologies.
